The Achrol fort is actually named the Achalgarh fort. It should not be confused with the Achalgarh fort located near Mount Abu, the only hill station of Rajasthan. ‘Pink City’ Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan is full of forts and palaces located in and around its vicinity. These majestic forts and palaces are known for their architectural design and beauty. One such awesome place is the Achrol fort or Achalgarh fort located on the outskirts of the metropolis. The fort lacks any kind of residential quarters. The fort is located in the midst of the enchanting Aravalli Hills and presents some of the most beguiling scenery.
The fort is property of the Achrol Thikana family, who are related to the Kachhawa rulers of Jaipur. Achrol Fort abuts an old haveli or a large residential unit located atop Achrol village.

Located at some distance from the busy Jaipur to Delhi Highway, the village houses some more old Havelis, but Achrol fort or Achalgarh fort stands out for its imposing size and structure. A few trek operators have started organizing trekking, rappelling, and hiking expeditions to the Achrol fort.
Not much is known about the fort, except that the Achrol fort was built in 1564 A.D. Its imposing size and structure, made the fort near invisible, though the fort lacks upkeep and is in need of maintenance. Attempts to restore the palace are still not finished. Its location and size made the fort with its wide panoramic view, ideally for use in military and strategic purposes, while the haveli adjacent was used for residential purposes. The fort can be reached by trekking from Achrol village located at bottom of the hill. There aren’t any signboards to indicate the direction toward the fort. The view of sunrise and sunset from the top of the hill is stunning. Achrol fort was built in 1564 AD by Achaldas, the ruler of the Balabhadroho branch of Amber and Jaipur dynasty of Rajasthan. The scenic beauty of the surrounding areas as seen from the fort is amazingly beautiful. The domes of the fort are prominently visible from far. Tourists visit Achrol Fort every year and get mesmerized by its beauty. The enchantment of Achrol fort is enhanced by the fact that it is a photographer’s delight.
Besides its beauty, the fort is also known for being a trekking and rappelling destination. Rappelling is in the mornings n 2 to 3 batches. Tourists can spend the whole day exploring the fort and haveli, but it is advisable they begin the descent from the hill before sundown and reach the village. The best time to visit the fort is during the winter season when the temperatures are mild and the scorching heat doesn’t affect anyone, though strong winds blow at this time of the year.
Some efforts have been made for the restoration of the Achrol fort and haveli, but they are unsatisfactory and the fort and haveli are in danger of falling into complete disrepair and becoming unsafe. Tourists visiting the fort can also visit the Achalgarh palace. Located on the same road as the fort, at some distance from the fort; the palace is the residence cum hotel of the Achrol Thikana family. Also called the Achrol Niwas or Achrol Bagh Palace, it has also modern amenities that a tourist looks for including a swimming pool, and a badminton court. A fully equipped bar and restaurant are the highlights of the palace. The sprawling gardens of the palace are often used for wedding venues.
