Ajman is the capital of the emirate of Ajman in United Arab Emirates. The fifth-largest city in UAE after Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and AlAin it is located along the Persian Gulf and is surrounded by the larger emirate of Sharjah. Al Bu Kharaiban Nuaimi family has been ruling Ajman since 1816. In 1820 he signed the General Maritime Treaty with the United Kingdom at Falaya Fort.
Ajman signed the 1835 Maritime Treaty in its own right. On 4 May 1853, ‘A Perpetual Treaty of Peace was entered into by the coastal Sheikhs, including Ajman. A copy of this treaty is on display in Ajman Museum. On 2 December 1971, Ajman, under Sheikh Rashid bin Humayd Al Nuaimi, joined the United Arab Emirates. The city has more than 90% of the population of the emirate area that runs directly into the city of Sharjah along the coast to the south-west, which in turn is adjacent to Dubai, forming a continuous urban area.
Ajman Port and Ajman Free Zone are major contributors to the emirate’s economy. Exporting to over 65 countries, the Free Zone’s companies make up approximately 20% of the UAE’s overall industrial units, with some 256 industrial companies operating from the zone. Ajman has seen investments from foreign companies. There are numerous tourist attractions in the emirate including the Ajman Beach, Ajman National Museum, Ajman Fort, Red Fort.
City Centre Ajman, the Emirate’s biggest mall, is a big attraction and houses a variety of shops. Ajman’s corniche is a popular evening and weekend destination for families and features a number of fast food outlets, coffee shops, and stalls. It is home to the ‘Outside Inn’, a popular watering hole with expatriates, as well as to a number of hotels, including the Ramada, Ajman Palace, Ajman Hotel, the Ajman Saray, and Fairmont Ajman.
Al Zorah area has been developed for tourism purpose with multiple activities for all ages. The city is well connected with other parts of the world through Sharjah, while the port provides sea links. Ajman is the smallest of all seven emirates in UAE and is known for its scenic beauty and beautiful beaches. Known for its sky scrappers, museums, beaches, fort, shopping mall, and market complexes; Ajman is situated along the western coast of UAE, with a coastline extending up to 16 km.
As a tourist destination, it offers its visitors a sunny vacation and an enriching historical experience. some of the major places worth visiting are Dhjow Yard, Sheikh Zayed Ajman Mosque, Ajman Ladies Park, Al Jarah Cultural Center, Ajman Fishmarket, and Etisalat Tower. Al Muwayhat was discovered in 1986 and is a major archaeological site on the outskirts of the city of Ajman. Aqua Bounce Ajman is a must-visit amusement park.
For adventure seekers hot air balloon, sailing, jets king, camel safari, and dune bashing are also good options. There are few hotels and resorts that offer luxurious, mid-range, and budget accommodation. The restaurants offer a variety of Arabic and Indian cuisine. Alcohol is allowed in Ajman and is available easily at hotels and restaurants. Overall Ajman is a place to relax and laze under the sun.
