Assam, the land of wonders, is the best place known for its biodiversity. There are many tourist places in Assam that are worth visiting. These places enhance the state as just more than a normal tourist attraction. The most important of them is Guwahati which is the largest, and the most important city in the region. It is a sprawling city beside the Brahmaputra River in the northeast Indian state of Assam Gateway to the Northeast it’s known for holy sites like the hilltop of Kamakhya Temple, featuring shrines to the Hindu deities Shiva and Vishnu.

It is one of the many educational institutes in the state and was built to promote, enlighten, and educate people about prehistoric times and science and technology.

The highlight is a prehistoric park with centuries old exhibits as well as 3D movies, outdoor and indoor shows, and fish aquarium. Near to this museum is Paltan Bazaar the biggest wholesale market or garments in North-East. Another museum worth visiting is the Assam State Museum established in 1940. One of the biggest multipurpose museums in the country it is known for its epigraphy, sculptures, crafts, natural history and folk-art forms. It houses rare and antique collections, sculptures made of stone, metal, wood and terracotta, ivory paintings, royal garments, coins, bamboo items and musical instruments.

The museum also houses library with rich collection of books, journals and periodicals. Those interested in arts and culture of Assam can visit the Sankardev Kalakshetra Museum named after Srimanta Sankaradev., a famous playwright and poet of medieval period, a Vaishnav. The museum includes library, children’s park besides exhibiting different types of items used by diversified ethnic groups of Assam. There is an open-air theatre in the premises, where traditional dance and drama are performed. Also worth visiting is the Doul Govinda Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and the Purva Tirupati Shri Balaji Temple.

nature lovers can visit Deepor Beel, ,a freshwater lake located in the south western part of the city,. Beel is an Assamese local word for lake and Dipor Bil is considered as one of the biggest lakes of the Brahmaputra valley of Lower Assam. It is surrounded by steep highlands on the northern and southern sides and its main sources of water are the Kalmani and Basistha Rivers. One will get to see many aquatic types of vegetation here which comprise of the water lilies, water hyacinth, aquatic grasses and many other types of floating vegetations. About 18 genera of phytoplankton are found here in this Beel. There are numerous other places orth visiting in Guwahati.
