Coimbatore is a city in the south Indian state of TamilNadu. The city located on the Noyil River, about 25 miles west of Tiruppur, on the road between Chennai and Kozhikode Kerala is a major industrial hub and it houses more than 25,000 small, medium and large industries with the primary industries being engineering and textiles. Coimbatore is called the “Manchester of South India” due to its extensive textile industry, fed by the surrounding cotton fields.
The city is famous for the centuries-old, Dravidian-style Arulmigu Subramaniyaswami Temple at Marudamalai. The colorful and intricately carved Arulmigu Patteeswarar Swamy Temple lies southeast of here. In the center, the Gass Forest Museum has a huge collection of preserved animals and tree trunks.
