Dadra and NagarHaveli is composed of two separate geographical entities; Nagar Haveli, wedged between Maharashtra and Gujarat and Dadra, surrounded by Gujarat with Silvassa as the headquarters of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Ruled by the Portuguese from 1783 until the 1954 before becoming a union territory in 1961, the union territory was merged with union territory of Daman and Diu to form unionterritory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu on January 26, 2020.
