Kanpur is a city known as a major city in Uttar Pradesh. It played a critical role in India’s independence. The city built on the banks of Ganga is infamous for SattiChauraGhat massacre during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, when 900 British men, women and children were besieged for 22 days by rebels under Nana Sahib Peshwa. They surrendered on the agreement that they would get safe passage but many of them were killed at Satti Chaura Ghat.later the remaining where also massacred later. Those killed were buried at Gorakabristan.
The invading British later extracted revenge by killing hundreds of civilians. A memorial church was built in the memory of the British killed..NanaRao Park or Company Bagh is a city park in Kanpur built in honor of NanaSahib Peshwa after independence in 1947 and a must visit for tourist. The park is of immense historical significance as the location of the Bibighar massacre where around 200 British women and children were killed.
