Silchar is the headquarters of the Cachar district and a major town of the state of Assam, India. It is 343 kilometres south east of Guwahati ad a gateway to Mizoram and Ttripura. It was founded by Captain Thomas Fisher in 1832 when he shifted the headquartes of Cachar to Janiganj in Silchar It earned the moniker “Island of Peace” from Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India.[2] Silchar is the site of the world’s first polo club and the first competitive polo match.

Kanch Kanti Kali Mandir is one of the most renowned temples in South Assam located 11 kims from Silchar. it was built in the 19th century by the then Kachari king.
